²⁸ I chose^(A) your ancestor out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense,^(B) and to wear an ephod^(C) in my presence. I also gave your ancestor’s family all the food offerings^(D) presented by the Israelites.

¹¹ They may serve in my sanctuary, having charge of the gates of the temple and serving in it; they may slaughter the burnt offerings^(A) and sacrifices for the people and stand before the people and serve them.^(B)

¹⁵ “‘But the Levitical priests, who are descendants of Zadok^(A) and who guarded my sanctuary when the Israelites went astray from me, are to come near to minister before me; they are to stand before me to offer sacrifices of fat^(B) and blood, declares the Sovereign Lord.^(C)

5 Every high priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God,^(A) to offer gifts and sacrifices^(B) for sins.^(C)

³ Every high priest^(A) is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices,^(B) and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer.^(C)
